Just wanted to drop in and give a quick update on the freeze drying business venture. The machine has been ordered! We are super excited for it to get here (October 23 is the expected delivery date) so we can start making our own healthy snacks for the girls!
Freeze Dried Fruits Are Expensive!
This really all started as a hair-brained idea. Alysha and I were at the grocery store Sunday afternoon after church and we spent $40 - $50 on freeze dried fruit. I think it's $3-$5 an ounce at the store, and our girls easily eat an ounce in a single setting. Alysha has started making her own "Trail Mix" for the girls using freeze dried fruits and they absolutely love it.
Junk and Unhealthy Additives in the Food
On top of it being pricey, we really have no idea what the process looks like when we buy it from the store. The fruit could be artificial. It could have lots of preservatives, dyes, added sugars or other junk and extras in it that we just wouldn't know about (They could be sneaky and add it all to the berries before freezing them to get around putting it on the ingredients labels).
A Business Idea
Once we got home, we started talking about freeze dryers and healthier snacks for the girls. I tossed out the idea that we should just buy a large freeze dryer and start a business selling healthy snacks to friends, families, and locals. We've bounced around a couple business name ideas. I think CryoPantry is our favorite so far, but maybe we would be better off sticking with Spaulding Family HS or Spaulding Family Homestead? We're not sure. I guess we could combine the two and call it Spaulding Family CryoPantry?
Drop a comment and let us know what you think the company name should be, and whether or not you think our idea is crazy!
